Welcome to my studio newsletter.

As summer shifts to autumn and I prepare for the delayed Open Studios, I reflect on the importance of colour in my work.

Commissions push me to consider new ideas. I have some sheets of vibrant orange glass in my racks that rarely get used. A little goes a long way. So I was delighted to be commissioned to make a panel for Donna’s 50th birthday inspired by her favourite orange roses. Finally, a chance to dust off the expensive sheets of selenium glass! The challenge was to find a green for the leaves that didn’t set my teeth on edge. As I trawled through the boxes of cullet (glass offcuts) to find the right shades of grey-green glass I realised I needed to go shopping, but more of that later.

The result was a panel that I would never have considered making without the initial brief. Thankfully, when her family unveiled the window, Donna loved it and I breathed a sigh of relief!
