Poppies 2014

Artist’s collection. Available for exhibition loan.

I made this piece for an exhibition at the National Waterfront Museum in Wales. I wanted to commemorate the artists and poets who fought and were able to transform their experiences of the devastation into something moving and even beautiful.

The words are from In Flanders Fields by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae. I faithfully copied his handwriting from the first draft that he wrote following the Battle of Ypres. He didn’t survive the war.

The glass in the border has been engraved and painted to look like broken glass, and represents the shattered lives of the soldiers and their families.

Dimensions: 47 x 47cm framed including removable lightbox for display on wall or with natural light.

I recently I turned my attention to producing a linocut with the same design. It is available in my shop.

Dimensions: 36cm x 36cm
