I wanted to commemorate the artists and poets who fought in the Great War and transformed their experiences into something moving and even beautiful that helps us understand the war. The stained glass panel depicts poppies growing through barbed wire with soldiers from the battle fields captured within the flowers. The quote is from ‘In Flanders Fields’ by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae and is copied from his handwriting. The broken glass, which is painted and engraved to look broken, represents the shattered lives of the soldiers.
